For our final we are supposed to write about what we learned this year so the first thing I thought of is what we did the first day this semester. The only problem with that is that I can't remember the first day pr even the or the third. I remember learning how to put up and use the cameras. I also remember learning about different shots and how to take these shots. I thought that this was a very fun class. I always had fun. My favorite part of this class was taking part in the KSDK video challenge. It was so much fun meeting the other kids Gateway tech. There school is so cool. You can learn how to become a medic or a fireman. You can also learn about planes and cars and how to fix them. There school is so amazing. Another thing I really like was watching the everybody has a story videos. They were very moving and I think I cried while watching all of them. In this class, there were a couple days in here that were a little boring but I have never been in a class the doesn't have at least a couple boring day> But other then that I really loved this class. Over this year we did many different projects my favorite was our final interview project. It was also the hardest project but thats ok because it was fun. I can't wait to take broadcast tech 2.
In broadcast tech we have just finished our biggest project of the year, an interview. This was a partner project that I did with Kate and Jamie. This was my favorite assignment all semester, even though it was the hardest. My group and I decided to do a story on the construction and the trailers going on at school. Originally we wanted to either do something about the Degas exhibit or Crown Candy Kitchen but neither of them called us back, but it was ok because we had fun this project. We talked to three different students and one teacher. One of the students we interviewed seemed a little camera shy and answered our questions with one word answers, so I didn't use her for anything but all the other interviews turned much better. The teacher we talked to, Mrs. Mannix, was a natural infant of the camera, she was very open and made jokes which was nice. We had to take three days to just get B-roll. Once I actually started editing I realized that I really didn't have that much B-roll. I had to use almost everything I filmed. I feel as though I should have got more close up and tight shots, but it turned out alright. My favorite part about this assignment was getting to interview the students. It was funny how nervous they were, they wold stutter then I would start to laugh, which is kinda mean but it was funny to me. The worst part the was stress of editing. I felt rushed even though I was one of the first people done in the class. Overall i really liked this project.
Today in class we watched Steve Hartman "Everybody has a story" videos. I watched six different videos, each one in a different place about completely different things, and each one made me feel something. One of the videos I watched talked about an Odd Couple, not a boy and girl, but and elephant and a dog. Tara and Bella are best friend who are completely inseparable. They eat, drink, and sleep together. One day bella hurt her back and was unable to walk. During this time Tara waited at the gate all day for her friend until one day when they owners took bella out to see Tara and they were ruinited again. These best friends show us how just because we are different doesn't mean we cant be finds.
This next story I watched was about a little boy who lived through things no one that young should ever have to live through. Jaden has lost both his mother and his father. But going through this has made him strong, it has also gave him a new purpose. He wants to make people smile. He goes down town and passes out small toys, such as rubber ducks and dinosaurs. This either makes people smile or cry, but either way it makes their day.
Over the last couple weeks, my class has been learning how to interview someone. Over spring break I interviewed my friend Lauren about her different charity work. She told me about the VP, which I am part of. Also she told me about volunteering with Ladue Early Childhood Center. I thought this project was lots of fun. I am really happy we did this and I can't wait until my next Interview.
Over the past two weeks we have been working on a six word story video. My video is about how practicing helps you win. The video shows me playing tennis, which is my favorite sport. I thought this project was a very fun one. I loved being able to film thing i like to do. It was even more fun to do them outside of school. I hope we get to do more fun films like this one again.
Today in class we were told that we were going to start a a new project. It is called a Six Word Story. My teacher had us do research about Ernest Hemingway, who was the originator of the six word story. We had to read his short story, 'For sale: baby shoes, never worn'. When I saw this, the first thing I thought was that the baby was dead. I then did some research about the story and found out that it was about a baby dying. My teacher then asked me to look online for some other six word stories and I found quite a few that were very sad and some that were happy. We are now working on making our own six word stories. I haven't figured out what to use as my words yet but ill figure it out in the next couple days.
Over the last couple days we have started learning to use Final Cut Pro, which is an app on your computer which allows you to edit videos. We edited the videos we took from our scavenger hunt. It was really fun. We got to add cool filters and transitions to them. Mine looks a little weird, but i think that the point of the project. But I liked doing this project. This is a really fun class and I like it a lot.
Yesterday in class, we did a scavenger hunt. In this hunt, we had to take videos of things like construction at the school, a teacher asleep, someone shaking hand with the school police officer, and so many more. It was lots of fun. Each video we took had to be a certain shot. Some were wide, some were media, and some were close shots. While we were taking videos of the trophy case, one of the P.E. coaches came up an started yelling at us for not doing our work. She then left and we filmed a closeup of something red, that was also by the trophy case. The coach came back and continued to bug us about now dong our work. We tried to explain what we were doing but she wouldn't listen. Even though there was annoying coach, I still had lots of fun doing this project.
I have just started a new semester at Ladue High Schools. I have also started a new class. In this class we just did a video project about ourselves. I chose to do mine on my trip to europe last year. When I went to europe we went to France, Switzerland, Garmany, and austria The video ended up being really good. It was a fun project and i hope to do something like this again.
